The Joys of Enfield

Hey Everyone...

Well we've had a lovely staycation so far. Unfortunately, it's almost over. Time to share some of it with you! On Wednesday we decided to stay close to home and investigate some treasures of North London.

The first was Forty Hall in Enfield...

This a beautiful old stately home. Unfortunately for us at the moment it is under renovation and the hall is closed to public until next year.

However, the lovely gardens (above) were still open for people to enjoy!

Just up the road (literally) and next on the list was the lovely Myddleton House gardens. Again, the house is closed to the public (this time permanently) but it was pretty on the outside...

The gardens are beautiful and were first created by E.A. Bowles who last owned the house.

The gardens weren't huge but the space was well used, with pretty different areas...

A lovely fish pond with my favourite water lillies...

And lots of fish that we fed for only 20p...

Look at that big mouth!

Parts of the gardens are tranquil and hidden like this area with the old Enfield market cross...

And a hidden little seat which was a haven...

Where we hid to take a private picture...

It's a shame you can't see inside the pretty house, so I took lots of outside pictures instead...

It also had a lovely little museum and a cafe that sold a lovely cream tea in a pretty little courtyard!

I think we will be going back in the Spring!

We also stopped at Capel Manor, again just up the road, another stately home that is closed to the public but has pretty gardens. Here however, there was an entry fee (the other two were kindly free) and having already seen some pretty gardens we decided to leave it for another day!

We also stopped at Trent Park in Cockfosters on the way home and walked up to the old Trent Park Mansion House - again not open to the public as it is used by Middlesex University. This is such as shame as the park is beautiful and the old Mansion House looks like the kind of place visitors would love to see but now it is just wasted as administration offices!

Can you tell I was annoyed at not seeing inside these lovely buildings?

Who knew Enfield had such lovely places? Well, we had never noticed as they were all hidden between horrible estates, business parks and duel carriageways. Just shows you have to hunt for little treasures!
