Pretty Little Ribbons...

Hi Everyone,

How is your week going so far? I personally can't wait for Friday and the long weekend. Our Friday plans are yet to be decided, but on Saturday me and my maid of honour are off for a spa day and afternoon tea. Sunday I'm planning to bake malted chocolate cupcakes with an easter theme, before going for a picnic with my family in Marlow. And then on Monday I'm off up to Birmingham, on the train meaning I don't have to stress about driving, to visit my lovely uni friends! What a great weekend!

Any ideas of where me and my fiance could go visit on Friday, somewhere no further than an hour and a half's drive from North London!?

Anyway back to my blog...

Today I just wanted to share a new use I have found for something in my home. My fiance bought me this lovely decorative jar from Laura Ashley for my birthday back in February. I love it, but didn't really know what to do with it. Then recently I was looking for ribbon for my latest sewing project, and realised I had too much ribbon in a tiny box making it impossible to see. So....

I have filled my pretty jar with pretty ribbons, and also used some old cotton reels for particularly long lengths as suggested by Gem!

Now I just want to find lots more ribbon to fill it!

I am also enjoying reading through my thrifty book! I'm pleased to say, so far I mostly do all of them! Although I am now considering making my own cheese, and ordering my shopping online (which will also mean out Saturday mornings will be sacred again!).

I am slightly annoyed by some of the suggestions (such as buying expensive clothes that last longer than cheap clothes, as her idea of cheap clothes starts at £40 for a simple dress - which I would never consider spending).

It's giving me the itch to do more sewing, but with a full time job, planning a wedding, cleaning, preparing for a very scary interview, trying to exercise and trying to make time for friends and family I just can't fit much more in!

However, I am determined to try sewing a piece of clothing this summer! Any suggestions for what I should start with?

P.S. I hate to do this here but I'm hoping you'll all forgive me - my fiance and I have entered a competition to win a holiday of a lifetime, by uploading a video about our proposal. If you have facebook, could you please click on this link, click on view gallery, and then 'like' our video - Julie And Andrew!

Thank you!

P.P.S. Please also take a look at my blog from last week about biscuit tins - I still haven't found a home for them - could you be it? Or suggest someone/somewhere?!

  1. I know what you mean about the clothes section of the book, I wasn't overly keen on that particular section but the rest of the book so far has been good.

I love the Laura Ashley jar, your fiance has good taste. I am also liking Gem's suggestion about the cotton reels and the ribbon, it's a brilliant idea.

Sounds like you have a wonderful weekend planned. Enjoy it xxx

  2. Sounds like you have a lovely weekend planned! I can't wait for the long weekend now I have a clean and tidy flat!!

At the moment I'm making Easter nests to take into work tomorrow! They all wanted different cereals to make them so you can imagine I'm armed with shredded wheat, chocolate and all sorts!

As for the rest of my weekend, Saturday night I have a friend over for dinner, Sunday I'm with my family at my aunts and then out with friends in the evening and no doubt Monday will be spent recovering!!!!

I also intend to visit some boot sales for the first time this year!!!
